Excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum

Declared a World Heritage Site in 1997, the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 70 BC, are one of the few remaining proofs of the original social structures.
The eruption of the volcano in fact took place in broad daylight, literally petrifying people and their objects. The lava in Pompeii has imprisoned people who were trying to save himself heading to the port and cooling scored the profile of the bodies. A similar fate also for the inhabitants of Herculaneum, for which the speed with which the tragedy came true did not leave time to even escape attempts.
